HILLSBORO, TEXAS— The Hill College Continuing Education Department will be offering fully online Pharmacy Technician courses with no clinical requirement in August.

The program will prepare individuals as Pharmacy Technicians for entry-level jobs in retail and institutional settings. Students earning their certificate will learn to perform pharmacy calculations, comply with federal and state-level laws and regulations, and prepare prescription orders with a licensed pharmacist’s supervision. This program will prepare students to sit for the certification exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). The program consists of 208 hours of online lecture and lab instruction. Students must register in PHRA1013 Community Pharmacy Practice, PHRA1008 Pharmacy Insurance Customer Service, PHRA1009 Pharmacy Mathematics, and PHRA1005 Drug Classifications upon program entry. The Pharmacy Technician program classes will be held Aug. 3 - Dec. 9.

The instructor for the Pharmacy Technician Program, Sarah Youngblood, CPhT, comes with experience from various local pharmacies. She held a position at Brookshire’s Pharmacy in Whitney for five years before moving to Eubank Drug in Whitney, where she has been for the past eight years. While at Eubank Drug, the opportunity presented itself for Youngblood to teach. She instructs with compounding, numerous visual references, and an assortment of videos to engage her students and improve comprehension.
